Motivation:

As a newbie to drawing architecture diagram such as a building site plan, Sketchup 2017 was a convenient and proven as an easy to learn tool to get started. Thing get a bit hard when real construction drawing requirement comes by City Hall – Design and Planning which expect drawing to be print in perfect scale of 1inc = 10feet or 1inc = 20feet on 24×36 inch papers.

Sketchup 2017 and Layout 2017 – Steps

  1. Ensure Sketchup diagram are in perfect angle or picture as needed to be print – for Siteplan, we want it to be flat 2 dimension looking. To achieve this, we need to set our camera to Parallel Projection
  2. Send Diagram to Layout 2017 from Sketchup 2017
  3. Pick a paper type – It can be in any size now as you need to confirm or pick later. For convenient later, we pick Arch D paper which is usually for printing 24×36 architect drawing
  4. Confirm the paper size or re-pick different size as you wish. In this case again, we confirm it is a paper size with 24×36 and it happens to be arch D paper type
  5.  Set the scale. This step is everything that we need in term of print with scale beside step 4. We pick scale to 1 inc = 10 feet and watch diagram automatically adjust on the drawing
  6. Export Layout 2017 drawing after you are happy with everything – scale and paper size
  7. With this PDF in high quality – you can send it to any printing shop with 24×36 paper size printer and able to get the print with exact scale as you set
